A new year is a chance for a fresh start, and 2021 is no exception. With most of us happy to see 2020 on its way out, the new year presents seniors with a unique opportunity to create new goals, implement healthier habits, and make a lifestyle change for the better. The issue is never really making resolutions, but rather it’s seeing them through. That is why we’ve come up with five great goals below for your senior to help them kick off the new year right!

Make Healthy Living Goals

Getting a daily dose of physical activity is both safe and healthy for older adults. Exercise can help improve many health conditions and prevent a host of others. It also provides added benefits, like helping your senior control weight, improve their mood, and strengthen their muscles and bones.

Meet New People

Positive social interactions and meeting new people is important for your senior to maintain their social wellness. When it is safe to do so, volunteering and giving back to the community are great ways for your senior to find a greater purpose in their life, achieve fulfillment, and connect with like-minded individuals. Help them find an organization to get involved with, whether in-person or virtually, in the new year.

Challenge the Brain Regularly

Keeping the brain sharp and active is on many seniors’ wellness list in the new year. One of the ways they’re accomplishing this is by learning something new – technology. Seniors are the quickest growing segment of computer users. Learning to virtually communicate has been a great brain booster lately!

Get Plenty of Rest

A good night’s sleep is essential for seniors. Does your senior loved one have trouble sleeping? If so, 2021 is a great chance to explore solutions to sleep troubles, adopt new sleeping habits, or to consult with a specialist for answers.

Be Conscious of Overall Health

Since a senior’s body changes often, so does their health. Have them be proactive by scheduling their annual wellness visit with their doctor in order to keep up with their health.
